CLASSIC AND MODERN 50 RACING CLUB Club Members and Their Bikes

Syd Dore

Retired, Lives in Hertfordshire.

Syd has loved bikes from young age and flirted briefly with racing a 1976 Suzuki TR500 ( Barry Sheene Replica), sadly with very limited success.

By chance Syd was offered a drive in a Porsche 924 race car and showed some promise on four wheels. Moved into Porsche 911 racing during the 1980's and 1990's. Raced various 911 models which included the 2.2E, 2.4T and the 3.0 litre Carrera.  Plenty of podium finishes but it was not until 1996 that real success came with winning the Porsche Club Classic Championship in class three, racing the beautiful 911 2.4 T.

Having then spent a few more years using his Championship winning car to introduce promising new drivers into the Porsche Racing scene. In 2000 Syd retired from running his own International road Haulage business, bought a Hymermobil 700 motorhome and for the next ten years, with his wife toured Europe and the USA.

After re-settling back in the UK in 2010, Syd rekindled his love affair with things two wheeled and at the same time started a motorcycle touring club which dedicates itself to at least two European road tours each year and two long weekends at various UK venues. The Touring Knights is still up and running to this day and enjoys a dedicated membership of like minded riders, both male and female.

This touring activity has been fulfilling, but the lure of adrenalin rush racing was still lurking just below the surface. It is said, "You can take the man out of racing but you cannot take racing out of the man" , so in 2016 it was decided to re-enter the racing scene, but this time on two wheels, and the 50 Classic Club was the perfect answer.

Syd has had a good measure of success in 50cc racing with a second place in the clubs air cooled championship in his first year racing with the club.
