Steve Porter

“….my favourite tracks are Tonfanau, Aberdare Park, Mallory, Lydden and Three Sisters - all relatively short and challenging.

I have a pact with my wife Karen - she doesn't like / understand racing bikes and ice hockey (my winter passion) and I don't 'get' line dancing and yoga!

I reckon that the best part of race weekends is meeting up with your mates and the camaraderie that gets you through most scrapes / mechanical issues.

My racing high point was winning the 250 Classic Singles championship at Tonfanau in 2009 and the low point was locking my keys in the van at Tonfanau in 2014!!….

“…..As the 50's are normally on the same grid as classic 250's at Tonfanau, it was probably inevitable that I would eventually get drawn to the dark side - two stroke tiddlers !

The Kreidler engined replica that I race has been in the ownership of several other club members in the past, but with a fantastic engine put together by Ron Ponti, it is now a competitive bike - even accounting for my weight and height!!….“

Steve is a Company Director from the Isle of Wight who bought his first race bike (a Ducati 250) back in 2005. After 'parading' for a couple of seasons, he started racing at the age of 53 and really enjoys 'proper' club meetings.

On this page Steve tells us in his own words, about his 50cc racing career so far .
